Franciscan Caring People Caring For People

The Society of Josephines

"Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;

where there is hatred, let me sow love; where

there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope; where there is

darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy."

- Prayer of St. Francis

The role of dedicated volunteers has played a significant part in the Brothers' work. From the time of their first opening a facility in the 1920s to this day, thousands of people have generously donated their time and provided financial support for the care given at the Brothers' nursing homes.

In 1936, the Society of Josephines was founded as a non-profit, non-sectarian organization of women. Their support benefits those in need of special care at Price Memorial, assisting the Brothers as they strive to provide for the elderly, the infirm and the terminally ill -- and improving the quality of life for their residents.

The fellowship of this group is rewarding in many ways to its members. In addition to the satisfaction that derives from selfless giving, each year the Society of Josephines has a luncheon where members gather to enjoy each other's companionship and share in their common dedication to helping the Brothers.

All are welcome to join the Society. Nominal yearly dues of $15 are paid to the Society, along with any additional contribution that members care to make.

Helping the Brothers to Care for Others

"To help ensure that the Society remains viable for years to come, we encourage people in the communities we serve to join this very worthwhile organization," said Brother Bernardo Trosa, director general of the Franciscan Missionary Brothers. "For many years, the support that this group provides to us has been important in our ability to care for our residents. And, we hope you'll consider becoming a part of the Society of Josephines."
